Inclined plate clarifiers make use of density differences between suspended solids and wastewater or process solutions to effect a separation of the two phases. Gravity settling permits removal of particles which have densities greater than that of the bulk stream. Separation is accomplished by optimizing retention time, vertical velocity, and plate surface area.
